Elementary News: Third Grade

Studying the effects of carbon dioxide.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Learning important skills

by Patty Brousek

Learning how to present information to others is an important part of third grade.  We have been discussing how to properly use our voice, posture and eyes to keep the attention of our audience.  The students admit that having all eyes on them can cause an uneasy feeling.  I am proud of how far they have come.

The third graders are starting to become more aware of how authors are able to give us a picture of what we are reading with their words.  We are working to get better at this with our own writing and are encouraging each other to use the many adjectives we have discussed in English.

In Science we did an experiment to determine the effects of carbon dioxide.  We discussed how this gas helps to warm the planet but also hypothesized about the effect of too much carbon dioxide on the planet.
