Psychology Class....A Real Snoozer!
Psychology sleep in class!
by Lynn Bowder
Psychology students, while studying a unit on "Altered States of Consciousness", took part in an experiment using relaxation techniques.
Students learned how to create a "trigger" to help them relax.
In this case it was placing the first finger and the thumb together.Students were taken through a systematic progression of tensing and relaxing the muscles of their body and listening to mental directives to eventually result in complete mind and body relaxation. Several of the students relaxed to the point of falling asleep. One of the few times when a teacher considers putting their student to sleep a good thing!
This is a technique the students can use if they have difficulty falling asleep at night sometime in the future.
