BACK TO BACK CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR BOYS
Girls Finish Third in Tournament

On January 30th 2010 at Southeast Community College the Boys Basketball team defended the title of Frontier Conference Champions, while the girls received third in the Conference Tournament. The boys defeated Nebraska Lutheran 45-30, and the girls beat Prague in an overtime thriller, 37-34.
The Boys started out the Conference Tournament as the number 1 seed, which means they received a first round bye. In the semifinal round the boys team, coached by Mark Watton, handed a 58-28 defeat to the Panthers of Prague. The Wildcat girls were the 5th seed and defeated College View 32-28 in the first round and suffered a defeat to the top ranked Concordia Mustangs, 94-22. Then in the Consolation game for the girls they beat Prague 37-34 in overtime, without the play of two starters due to injury. Samantha Roumph had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to victory. Maren McDowell was second on the team with 9 points. The Lady Wildcats ended up winning 3rd place in the Frontier Conference Tournament.
The Boys Basketball team repeated as Conference Champions with a 45-30 win against Nebraska Lutheran. The boys started out the game leading 25-9 but went scoreless for 9 minutes. The Wildcats were leading only 25-23 and ended up pulling away on a 20 to 7 run, led by Seniors Jeff Fox and Brian Dunker. 6’3 power forward Dunker led the team with 17 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Jeff Fox had two 3 pointers, two free throws and a layup to end with 10 points. Dustin Gerdes and Trent Kirchmann each had 6 points for the Wildcats. Dylan Burcham and Kasey Gaughen had 4 and 2 points respectively. Kirchmann led the team with 5 assists, and Fox led with 4 steals.
The boys and girls team each play on on Thursday, February 04, 2010. The Lady Wildcats are home against High Plains, and the boys are away at Rising City.
