2010-2011 WILDCAT FOOTBALL PREVIEW
Strong Leadership will define 2010 Wildcats
by J. Anstey
First off….Welcome back to school! Yes, I know summer is fun, but do you know what summer doesn’t have? Here, let me help you. Summer doesn’t have football! Now that we have that covered we can look at this year’s 2010 Wildcat Football Team. This may not be your typical football team. You won’t be seeing the 200 plus pound linemen, or the 21, 22 dives that your use to seeing every Friday night. This team possesses great speed, heart, and determination. They know what it’s going to take to get those W’s every Friday night.
As mentioned earlier the 2010 Wildcats will be breaking open a new offensive scheme. So I hope you’re ready to see a lot of points scored! This offense needs to be executed just about perfectly. You need to be precise. This offense is all started up front. Our offensive line may not be the biggest but they get low and have quick feet. Now who is in the backfield and playing out wide? (Oh yea, this groups consist of leadership. And there is certainly a lot of it.) All five seniors occupy those positions. This is where you see a lot of the speed. You won’t see as much running the ball but these backfield players are well conditioned and will be throwing the ball.
Now, let’s take a look at this year’s defense. Again they may be oversized at times but that really doesn’t matter, because low guy wins. They will be getting under the opponents pads and off the ball first. Now football isn’t all about X’s and O’s. A lot has to do with overall teamwork, leadership, and communication. That is something I see every day out of this team. The numbers may be small, but they go out on the field every day to get better! This is all started by the leaders of the team. The five seniors communicate well and show leadership on and off the field. They also keep everyone’s heads into it. If someone makes a mistake they don’t allow that person to put his head down. When someone makes a play they rally around it. So, just because this team may be smaller than others don’t underestimate them.
Now that you know more on this year’s team. Come support them this Friday at 7pm. as they take on Concordia in the season opener!
