This is my eighth year as the Principal at Cedar Bluffs High School. I am very happy to be a part of this school district because I get to work with a great group of students and staff.
I am a graduate of Creighton University. Before arriving at Cedar Bluffs, I taught math, served as Dean of Students, Athletic Director, Principal, and coached football, soccer, wrestling, and basketball.
I am very proud of the progress that our student body has made in academics and citizenship. We have a great group of students here at Cedar Bluffs.
The ceiling and lighting remodeling project in the elementary is a huge success. All asbestos has been removed from the ceiling. A new "dropped ceiling system" has been installed. It looks great. New energy efficient lighting is much brighter and will benefit our students and teachers.
A new reading series for grades K-6, Treasures, has been adopted and will be implemented this year. We expect to see a lot of improvement in our students reading ability.
Our curriculum in the high school has expanded considerably:
Junior and Senior students are able to take advanced courses through the University of Nebraska Independent Study High School.
Junior and Senior students can take college credit courses on-line through Metropolitan Community College, Midland Lutheran College, Peru State University, Southeast Community College, Northeast Community College, and the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Senior students can take college courses on campus at Metropolitan Community College and Midland Lutheran College.
Senior students interested in the health field can earn their certified nursing certificate, C.N.A., through Metropolitan Community College. This is a great way for students interested in the health profession to earn more money whether they are entering the work force on a full time basis or are working part time while attending college.
Junior and Senior students can now take Career Academy courses through Southeast Community College at the Saunders County Hospital and the J.E.O. Building in Wahoo. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about a career that they are interested in while earning both high school and college credit.
Cedar Bluffs Public Schools will pay up to $600 a year in tuition for college credit for our Junior or Senior students. This is a huge accomplishment that will be of great benefit to our students.
Our students will graduate from Cedar Bluffs High School with the essential skills needed to be successful in college, the work force, and in society.
Activities are extremely important in the lives of our students. In fact research across the country shows that students who participate in extracurricular activities will achieve higher grades, have more friends, will have fewer discipline issues, and will like school more than students who do not participate. I highly encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities throughout the school year.
When students leave Cedar Bluffs High School, they will leave with good memories, and begin a new bright future.
