Superintendent Weekly Press Release January 22, 2021

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

COVID RISK LEVEL: ORANGE

For the Week of January 25th, the COVID risk dial remains in Orange at 3.14 having not moved from the previous week. Dodge and Washington counties rose slightly from 3.00 to 3.14 while Saunders remained at 3.00.

The DHHS Vaccine Dashboard shows that as of January 20th they have vaccinated 121,681 Nebraskan or 1.34%, up from the .95% last week. According to the data on this dashboard, it shows that Health Agencies continue to vaccinate even on Saturday and Sunday (although at a lower numbers). From Monday January 11th through Sunday January 17th there were 29,222 Nebraskans that got vaccinated or roughly 4,175 people per day with the single largest day of vaccinations occurring on January 5th with 13,662 people. The goal of vaccinating 1.48 million Nebraskan’s over the age of 16 seems overwhelming at this pace. Nebraska is ranked 19th in the Nation for percentage of population vaccinated. During Governor’s Ricketts News Conference January 22, he stated that there were 15 Health Districts in Nebraska that have or will move to 1B phase by Monday January 25th.  They stated that with the current number of vaccines they are getting from the Federal government and if 75% of the 1B population receives the vaccine that with an estimated 500,000 people, it would take approximately 4 months to complete. However, they hope that vaccine production will increase as well as additional vaccines will be approved by the FDA for use in coming months.

Here is a look at the options for vaccinations and where they are being used.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine expected to seek emergency authorization

in late February or early March would be a game changer since

it only requires one dose. It would help speed vaccinations in the US.

TOTAL POSITIVE: 27-Students, 45-Parent(s)/Family Members, 24-Staff

THIS WEEK POSITIVE: 0-Students, 3-Parent(s)/Family Members, 1-Staff    CURRENT QUARANTINE: 9

For the week, we have had one staff person test positive and is in quarantine. We had 3 parents test positive that resulted in 3 students quarantined and 1 student who was symptomatic who is being tested that resulted in that student’s sibling required to quarantine. From last week, I told you we had 5 students and 2 parents who were symptomatic and getting tested. Two students and one parent did come back positive.  In total we currently have 9 in quarantine as our numbers seem to have been going down, which aligns to the State numbers as they have begun to fall. Keep in mind, positive cases in Nebraska are still 5 times higher than last spring but much lower than our overall high in November.  Nebraska now ranks 38th in the United States with a 39.7 rate in daily new cases per 100k, ranks 16th with a .95 infection rate and ranks 14th with a 14.4% positivity rate.  The World Health Organization recommended in May that the positivity rate remain below 5% for at least two weeks before governments consider reopening. Only 5 States in the U.S. are currently below the 5%, with Oklahoma ranked highest at 20.5% and the District of Columbia, Alaska, Vermont, North Dakota and Hawaii showing current rates at 4.8%, 3.8%, 3.6%, 3.2% and 3.0% respectively. #WildcatPride
