After reviewing the results of the survey that was sent to seniors and their parents, it has been decided that we will set three potential dates for graduation. June 20th July 11th August 1st If graduation cannot be held due to restrictions in June we will move to the July date. If we cannot hold graduation due to restrictions in July we will move to August. If restrictions are still in place on our final date set, we will host a virtual graduation. We will make timely announcements as we get closer to each date. It is important that you are checking your emails and other forms of communication such as our alert now system, Facebook, and our school website in order to stay up to date on any new information.

Parents, Please remind your High School Grads to send Mrs.Chrisman any information they receive about awarded scholarships, to ensure that this information is announced correctly at Graduation. This includes any scholarships or funds/discounts that were offered from any college, even if they are not attending that specific college. This also includes any community or church-related scholarships. In celebration of our wonderful cafeteria staff and others helping to feed our students. Thank you! This coming Friday, May 1, is School Nutrition Association’s School Lunch Hero Day, an annual event to thank the School Nutrition front line workers across the country. It is a big deal to the cafeteria employees to feel appreciated and loved in an ordinary year, and this year they all are so deserving of extra special appreciation for figuring out how to keep school meals going out to students throughout extended school closures. THANK YOU FOR BEING A HERO!!!! Schwan’s has created the attached Thank You note and social post to promote their thank you for School Lunch Heroes. You can send out to your communities, families, and kids. Or you can post to thank your staff. Take a photo of your filled out form and post it on Yammer with #SchoolLunchHeroes so we can see all of the support. Dear Wildcat Family, Our school's Scrip program is a great fundraiser for our Pounding the Pavement program. A portion of the proceeds is also given to the Cedar Bluffs Education Foundation. We are about 1 month or so from rolling out our next phase of Scrip cards. We are looking for about 10 more individuals who would be willing to purchase cards online and then patiently wait 2 weeks or so to receive them. Jeff Bell, Becky Nielsen, Janelle Prchal, Cameo Sweeney, and Jen Wolsleben have already volunteered. We are trying to get all the kinks worked out of the system with a sample group before we roll it out to the entire community. If you would be interested in participating in our one or two trial runs, please contact Greg Brousek at 402-719-1630 or greg.brousek@cbwildcats.org

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families, Tonight at approximately 9pm, I received an email from the ESU2. They are following guidance from Three Rivers Health. The State of Nebraska has elevated the risk assessment this evening and therefore it has been recommended that ESU2 area schools close Tuesday, March 17 for approximately two weeks. As you know this is a fluid situation and will continue to be monitored moving forward. Cedar Bluffs will have a regular school day on Monday March 16th where students and teachers will report to Cedar Bluffs to clean out lockers, get all personal items and computers checked out as we prepare for the unknown. Buses will run accordingly but there will be no after school program. This is unchartered territory for everyone involved and we will do our best to communicate through our traditional channels as we work to develop a remote instruction as well as a feeding program so we can continue to serve our students and families. All activities will also be suspended until further notice. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school. I am truly sorry for this late notice as this situation continues to rapidly change.

Press Release 3-13-2020 Today, March 13, 2020 Governor Ricketts had a press conference that included the Commissioner of Education, Health Professionals and many School superintendents. What was communicated was that right now, we have “no community spread” and therefore the Governor will not close Schools by region until such time as that definition has been reached, if it is ever reached. Furthermore, the Commissioner of Education has urged schools to remain open because not only do schools provide an education for students and the community but they provide overall student care in the areas of nutrition, health and a safe place for children for those parents who are required to continue to provide services to the others in our State. Although this situation continues to be fluid, Cedar Bluffs Public School will continue to be open as scheduled with minor modifications including no self-serve salad bar, non-essential field trips and activities may be postponed and communicated through our district communications. Middle School students and students with an IEP will be given their laptops or Ipads today to be sent home in case there is a need for remote education and services in the future. For next week, the Parent Teacher Conferences will continue as scheduled, however the senior vs. staff basketball game scheduled for Thursday and the Saturday track meet has been postponed to a later date. On another note, those in Fremont please understand that the quarantine is over on March 14th and although Fremont Public Schools is not back in session next week because they are on spring break, as of now they are allowing track practice, speech meets and other large social gatherings starting Monday March 16th in the school just as they have every year while on spring break.

Dear Cedar Bluffs Public School Family, By now you’ve probably seen the news about the COVID-19 virus and potential exposure in Fremont, resulting in the closure of Fremont Schools and the University. The health and safety of our students and staff is a priority. Our administration has been in contact with Three River’s Health, the Saunders County Emergency Management Director, the Nebraska Department of Education, the Fremont YMCA, and the Superintendent of Fremont Public Schools. The Cedar Bluffs Crisis Team will continue to monitor this fluid situation and once we have gathered the necessary guidance a coordinated effort will be made to release information regarding schools in the surrounding area including Cedar Bluffs.

Dear Parents and Students, The district is monitoring the developing information related to the spread of COVID-19 (commonly referred to as the coronavirus). To date, the district is unaware of any native cases of COVID-19 being reported in our state. However, the district has reviewed its relevant policies and procedures and is confident that it is prepared to respond to any outbreak of communicable disease that may occur. Should this situation interfere with the district’s ordinary operations or schedule, you will be provided notice in the customary fashion. We encourage you to remain informed about the spread of the coronavirus, and would recommend that you visit the website for the Department of Health and Human Services, http://dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx, for further information as it develops. We would also encourage you to use this opportunity to remind your students of the importance of getting rest and washing hands, especially during cold and flu season. thank you

Today Miss Smoot’s kindergarten came back to a full jar of Good Behavior Beans. Each day the students work hard to make good choices and keep all 5 of their beans. At the end of the day whatever beans they have left over go into the jar and they have been working on filling it for a few months! Way to go Wildcat Kids!

Hello Parents and Seniors! I wanted to remind you that tomorrow, all Seniors will receive a catered lunch from Raising Canes beginning at 12:30 pm in the Library! Then, at 1:00 pm, Parents are invited to join us for an informative speech about the FASFA application, and then time to work on completing the app with the assistance of professionals. Please bring tax documents and student social security numbers to complete this application. As students finish applying for the FASFA, they will be asked to apply to at least one college of interest. After application to a college, there are several scholarships they will begin working on as well! There will also be free prizes and t-shirts for students as they check off these milestones from their list! We look forward to seeing you tomorrow! Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks! Kate Chrisman Cedar Bluffs Public Schools College & Career Counselor Drama Coach, FBLA & Journalism Club Adviser 402-628-2080

Parents, This is the new Kids First Program Bulletin Board that is located in the main hallway. Here you will find the weekly schedule for each age group, the teacher they are with, and their location for that day. We hope that this will make it easier for you to find your child when you come to the school. We will also be posting any Important information that may come up. We have also started a new reward system for the Kids First Program. The teachers have Wildcat Bucks cards to hand out to each student when they are seen showing our PRIDE characteristics. They write their name down and the card goes into a bucket. On Fridays we draw a name from each age group and they will get a prize and their picture taken which is hung up on the board. The teachers will also chose a Star student for the week that has set a great example for our students. That student will receive a prize, get their picture taken.

The Junior High Football Season concluded last week with a victory over Omaha Brownell-Talbot. The Cedar Bluffs-Mead Football Team ended the season with a 3-1 record. Weeping Water, Elmwood-Murdock and Talbot all fell victim to the thirty-plus member squad. The team's only loss of the season came at the hands of a very good Clarkson-Leigh team. Our split-squad fell to Lincoln Parkview Christian in a six-man football game during the last week of the season. The boys made steady progress throughout the season. Good job by all the members of the team. ---------------- Thanks! Greg B.

Parents and Seniors, On October 30th, we will be celebrating our "Apply2College" Day! Beginning at 12:30 pm, we will feed our Seniors a special lunch, and then at 1 pm, we will have a special presentation about completing the FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This would be a great time for parents and students to complete the application together, with a representative to help you with any questions. I will also be inviting representatives from several colleges to be in attendance, so they can help answer your questions! After the FAFSA, we will be asking students to apply to one or more of the schools they are interested in attending. If they have already applied/been accepted, we can start looking at Scholarships at this time, as well. There will be rewards and prizes for students throughout the afternoon, and a photo booth for parents and seniors to record this very important moment in their lives! Please try and plan to attend this event from 1-3:30 pm on October 30th. I will be sending out additional information as the date gets closer.

The "Buddy Bench" has officially been installed on the Elementary playground! Again, this bench is in remembrance of the many teachers who portrayed true kindness to all students. It serves as a way to reach out and help those in need. Here are the three rules for the bench; 1. Only sit on the bench if you need someone to play with or just need a friend at recess. 2. If you see someone sitting on the bench, talk to them and invite them to play. 3. If you are sitting on the bench and someone invites you to pay, say "yes." This special bench reminds us all how important it is to be kind and serves as a reminder than we are all dealing with something different. Choose to be kind, always!

Cedar Bluffs Public School will be installing a “Buddy Bench” in our playground this fall. This bench is in remembrance of the many teachers who portrayed true kindness to all students. It serves as a way to reach out and help those in need. There are only three rules regarding the bench: 1. Only sit on the bench if you need someone to play with or just need a friend at recess. 2. If you see someone sitting on the bench, talk to the them and invite them to play. 3. If you are sitting on the bench and someone invites you to play, say “yes”. Friends make everything better. But we may not always know how to make friends, or how to ask for help. This special bench reminds us all how important it is to be kind. We are all dealing with something and we can all benefit from the kindness of others. We all win when we reach out and make new friends.

Funeral Service for Tammy Sukstorf will be at 11 A.M., Friday, July 12, 2019 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M, with family receiving friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Union Cemetery. Principal Ben Hansen states, “Tammy was not only a great person but a great teacher. The teaching profession is not easy and the challenges that kids bring to the table over the course of a school year are countless, but Tammy always found a way to connect with her students. Many teachers are great in many ways, but Tammy was special. Her kindness, patience, compassion, and care for her students ran deep. No matter how challenging a student was, or how difficult a class, she remained poised and always worked to figure out how to personally connect with a student. She was able to do this because students truly felt loved and cared for by her. Tammy could often be seen with an arm around a student, a high five being given, or even tear up with pride when sharing something a student accomplished. She was born to be a teacher and had the personal intangibles that made her able to connect with kids beyond content and made them feel safe, secure and loved. She was a model employee who worked hard, took pride in being a teacher, did what she was asked and was constantly trying to improve. It is a tremendous loss to our school and she will be greatly missed for many years to come.” If you were unable to attend the grief sessions at the school today but would still like to meet with our counselor Tommy Gerrish, please call the school to set up an appointment.

Dear Parents, Patrons, and Students, It with great sadness that we inform you of the tragic loss of our second-grade teacher Mrs. Tammy Sukstorf. Tammy has taught at Cedar Bluffs Elementary School since 1994, touching so many lives in the process. We understand that many of you are grieving and we as a school would like to help with that process. The school will be open today at 2:00 p.m. where crisis counselors will be available for any students or parents that just need a comforting place. Please enter through the High School doors, as construction in the Elementary area makes it unsafe for travel.

Attention Bus Riding Families: To try and improve our programs on an ongoing basis we will begin to have bus monitors on some of our more populated bus routes. Monitors will be observing student behaviors and working to enforce bus safety protocols and referrals for unwanted and unsafe behaviors. They will also be evaluating procedures and identifying ways we can improve. If your child comes home and talks about a new adult on their bus and rule changes taking place, this will be why. We hope providing a set of eyes on the bus other than the just the driver's will help the overall atmosphere and safety for our buses.

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families, I would like to thank you for your support and patience during this unusual time. I know a lot of people have had questions about what “closed indefinitely” means. It has been very difficult to estimate a return date to school given the wide spread destruction. Now that the Nebraska Department of Transportation is opening roads, we are planning on having school Thursday March 21, 2019 with bus routes as usual. We are attempting to call all families in the impacted area to assess needs. If you are in an impacted area and you have not received a call by 6pm tonight, please contact the school Wednesday so we can account for all of our families. Our Crisis team will still be meeting Friday to continue to plan for the relief efforts. The link to the private needs request form is on the Schools Facebook page; if you were unable to access the form please call the school directly at 402-628-2080. Again, thank you for all of your support and understanding.

Over 200 students and nearly half of our teachers and staff are unable to safely get to school at this time. Therefore, Cedar Bluffs Public Schools will be closed indefinitely to allow time for families and staff to make safety their priority. All sports, activities, meetings, and youth sports will also be cancelled. The Crisis team will re-evaluate the situation on Friday, March 22nd and will provide additional information at that time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this terrible natural disaster, especially members of the Wildcat family that reside in Fremont, North Bend, and other surrounding areas. We would like to offer our support in any way possible, if there is anything the school or community could assist with, please contact Mr.Ptomey at Harlan.ptomey@cbwildcats.org.

Attention Families: On Tuesday, March 19th at 9:30 we will be having an assembly for 4th-12th grade students. The content will be covering bullying, cyber bullying, and being a courageous leader to influence more positivity among peers. Parents are welcome to attend as well. Please just contact the school ahead of time so we can do our best to plan for enough seating. The following is the summary provided to us by the presenter. Mark & Joni Adler will discuss with students the journey of their son Reid. Reid shared with them that he was having suicidal thoughts just over one month’s time when on January 7, 2016, Reid took his own life changing the lives of many forever. Reid was the victim of intimidation and cyber bullying, a situation his parents knew nothing about until after his passing. Mark & Joni will challenge students to stand up for each other and not allow any type of bullying or inappropriate treatment between students. The final focus will be on using courage and leadership as tools in spreading Hope and Kindness to everyone we encounter, an approach Reid lived and exemplified daily!
