Superintendent Weekly Press Release May 15, 2020

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

With the announcement by Governor Ricketts that baseball and softball will begin in limited fashion on June 1, we have quickly scrambled to see what options we have in providing summer baseball and softball for our families. Talking to other schools and communities, they believe older kids will understand the social distancing guidelines but worry about younger children and therefore are debating whether they will offer any lower level events. The American Legion has cancelled their season and so for our older boys, I am not sure we will have any teams to play. We did find out from Wahoo that they will have their leagues as usually, but Fremont wasn’t allowing anyone under 12U to play. Many of our parents that we have spoken to have said, they don’t want their child playing right now so we may not have enough to create our own teams. If this happens, we would encourage our kids to sign up in Wahoo and the Foundation will pay for their fees. Not an ideal situation but maybe better than nothing. We are still in the information gathering phase.

On May 13, the NSAA sent out guidance for our weight room but stated that schools were NOT allowed to do any school sponsored sports related camps. Cedar Bluffs will be doing a “soft” start to weightlifting, where we will provide 4 one-hour slots for your child to sign up for starting on June 1st at 6:30am. Coach Brinkman will be the only coach in the weight room with the 10 athletes. Every precaution will be taken with cleaning and sanitizing equipment between each kid and each group. Please ask your son or daughter if they have been contacted by one of the coaches and if not, please feel free to contact the school. The memo from NSAA stated that they will be re-evaluating this guidance and will let us know when schools may begin offering summer sport camps. The commissioner of education has not yet given any guidance on summer school.

Also, I want to remind everyone that we are continuing to provide food through June 30th for anyone who requests it. I know that some of you have had significant changes occur, if you have had a change in your household income, we encourage you to please call the school to be added if you are not receiving meals now.

Lastly, I wanted to share with you a quote from “The Seed” by Jon Gordon as. I continue to think about our graduating seniors.

Be the Seed. Seeds surrender themselves to the ground so they can be used for a greater purpose. Wherever you work, decide to plant yourself where you are and allow yourself to be used for a greater purpose. When you plant yourself and make a difference you grow into the person you were born to be and produce a harvest that will benefit others and change the world. #WildcatPride
