Dear Parents,

I feel it is important that I communicate with you in our effort to continue to be as transparent as possible in our current climate.

This Friday we are set to play Emerson Hubbard in our first football game of the year. We were contacted Thursday morning that Emerson Hubbard has closed their school Wednesday – Friday of this week due to lack of staff.

I spoke to their superintendent who said they have had four students and three adults test positive for COVID from the same classroom at the elementary school. The first case on August 21st, the last on August 22nd. Their elementary building is a separate building from their high school, and they have reported no exposures in their high school.

Out of precaution they closed their elementary building for three days to deep clean. They also chose to close their high school because now that elementary kids were home, they had many teachers in the high school who had to stay home with their elementary child and could not find enough subs to keep the school open. They do plan on reopening their school on Monday.

After speaking to Three Rivers Health and knowing the information above, it was recommended that because the cases are isolated in the elementary, we would be allowed to move forward with playing the game. We are asking only parents of our players attend the game. The game will be streamed live on Striv TV and we will get that information to you prior to the game. We have asked them to give us a separate entrance into the game. So please drive around to the East side of the football field and enter on that side only and do not visit the home side of the football field. They have request that you bring exact change: $5 for adult. We are having our players dress before they depart, and they will not enter their school. We are asking all fans to wear masks and social distance. Football players will wear masks when not directly playing and will be spaced on the sideline.

We understand that all schools in the United States are dealing with this issue and at Cedar Bluffs we know that we will eventually also. We also know that this is not going away anytime soon. As a parent of a football player, I believe in living cautiously but I also believe in not living fearfully. However, I leave it to every parent of a football member to decide if they want to send their child. If you chose not to allow your child to go to Emerson Hubbard and play in the game, please let Mr. Brinkman know so that he may adjust if needed.

Thank you

Mr. Ptomey, Superintendent

Cedar Bluffs Public School
