Superintendent Press Release April 19, 2024

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

Wow, this year is winding down, with only 19 more days of school before a short break and the start of summer school. Lots of events coming up as we close out the year among the end of year field trips, golf and track events; some of the other major events include 5-12th band night on April 26th, Senior Internship Capstone Presentation on April 23, 24, 29 and 30th, the Academic Awards Night on April 29th, Athletic Banquet on May 3rd, Fine Arts Night on May 7th, High School Graduation May 11th, DARE Graduation on May 13th, Elementary Talent Show on May 14th, Elementary Track day on May 15th and PreSchool and Kindergarten Graduation on May 17th.

Really nice event this week where the students of Cedar Bluffs hosted a District 23 political forum. All six candidates who are vying to replace the term limited Bruce Bostelman were in attendance. A rough estimate had the audience around 75 where an exit poll showed Jacob Wolff garnering 25% of the vote. Alan Zadnovy was a close second with 24% of the vote. Larissa Schultz and Allie French each had 17% of the vote followed by Dennis Fujan with 8% and Jared Storm with 6%. We were so grateful that other elected officials where there from our school board, village board, county sheriff, county clerk and county supervisors. It really was a terrific night where our kids were so engaged and did an amazing job asking questions and our community was able to interact with these soon to be public servants. Mr. Brousek, Mr. Roche, and Ms. Jasa did a nice job of preparing our students. They have had the opportunity to visit the Capitol this year and speak to current legislator Bruce Bostelman, spent almost an hour with Governor Pillen and have had multiple speakers into our school like Jim Henry from the Village Board and Scott Sukstorf from the county supervisor’s office. We really appreciate all those who gave up time out of their busy schedules to share with our students.

Above I highlighted the Senior Internship Capstone Presentation that they will be doing over the final two weeks in April. All our seniors will have completed an internship, and many are being offered fulltime positions, scholarships to complete trades or college and all of them have completed at least 40 hours of community service. I am so proud of our seniors that they are engaged with our community, and many are graduating with a trade, a skill, a license and or 12 to 24 hours of college credit already done.

Have a great weekend!
