Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

Tomorrow, on April 5th, Cedar Bluffs High School eagerly anticipates its annual Prom, with the grand march set to commence at 7:15 pm.

Prom holds a special place in the hearts of Cedar Bluffs students, a time where they come together to celebrate another school year's achievements in style. It's more than just an event—it's a cherished tradition that has evolved significantly over the decades, adapting to reflect changing times while preserving its essence of community and celebration. 2002Scrolling through I found this gem in the 2002 yearbook of are very own Director of Curriculum Ben Hansen and ex board member Shannon Lubker during the 2002-2003 Prom! Prom originated in the late 1800s from "promenade," emphasizing formal etiquette and structured dances. Initially held in gymnasiums under adult supervision, proms expanded in the 1920s–1930s to hotels and ballrooms, incorporating jazz music and school themes. By the 1940s–1950s, proms grew more elaborate and inclusive. The 1960s–1970s introduced themed events and junior proms, while the 1980s embraced extravagance. The 1990s brought alternative fashion, and the 2000s saw social media influence prom experiences.

Today, prom at Cedar Bluffs High School continues to evolve with contemporary fashion trends and digital influences. While social media heightens expectations for a picture-perfect evening, there's a strong emphasis on inclusivity and affordability. The school community prioritizes diversity and body positivity, ensuring all students feel welcomed and valued during this important milestone.

As superintendent, ensuring the safety and well-being of Cedar Bluffs students remains paramount during prom season. By balancing tradition with modern realities through careful planning, supervision, and support, we aim to uphold prom as a safe and memorable rite of passage for every student.

In essence, while prom may change with the times, its core remains unchanged—a milestone event in the high school experience that creates lasting memories and imparts valuable lessons in community, celebration, and self-expression.

Have a great weekend-  Wildcat Pride!
