Superintendent Press Release February 9, 2024

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

This week is National Signing Week for student athletes. Friday, Katie Keifer signed a scholarship to play softball at Peru State. Go Bobcats! Maddie Thomas signed with Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa to play Volleyball. Go Mustangs! In late April or early May, we will also have official signings of other high school seniors who are currently doing job internships and will likely be offered college scholarships and some official offers of employment.

Next Friday is No School for students, as our teachers have an in-service day. It is also kindergarten roundup that day where we have 67 people registered with roughly 35 students touring our buildings. Our Preschool will be at 40 again next year, with a wait list. This number is set by the Nebraska Department of Education in Rule 11. The board is considering the space where the old cafeteria used to be as new preschool classrooms. This would bring those students inside our building, then relocate our daycare into the preschool outbuilding. In doing this, it would open the current space where the daycare is, into another classroom so our teachers won’t have to share classrooms. For those that are unaware, we have some teachers that float around teaching in other teacher’s classrooms during their planning period, because we don’t have enough space for all classes. Eventually, we would like to turn the old kitchen into a new, modern, Family and Consumer Science (FCS) classroom since we are finding a growing interest from our students in that career pathway. In moving the FCS classroom, that would allow us to expand our current Music room as Mrs. Rehn continues to grow her program.

This weekend is a busy weekend, with Cheer presenting their State performance Friday. Poker Night at Todd’s Tavern hosted by the Education Foundation on Saturday. And put on your calendar for February 16 the Adult Bingo, hosted by our PTO along with the first of several Fish Fries by the Son’s of the American Legion Post 158. State Cheer and State Wrestling both occur the weekend of February 16th as well.

Also, next Thursday February 15th, we invite you to our Boys Basketball game vs. Winside. This is our boys last game before they go into Districts. During halftime of this game, the Cedar Bluffs Booster Club will be honored for their years of service. We are so grateful for these dedicated volunteers who provide countless hours of support for our student athletes.

As an administrator there is always something I can attend every night. Our school is busy with high school and junior high sporting events, school activities like speech, one act and robotics. Our administrators try to attend youth events and watch our kids that are involved in the Platte River Select league as well. Not to mention board meetings, board committees and the legislative hearings that I am involved in as part of the Nebraska Rural Schools Association. Life is not boring, and I am so proud of all our students and all the many events that are going on. This community rocks! Have a great weekend.

Wildcat Pride!
