Cedar Bluffs Public Schools Important Update: Delayed Start to the 2026-2027 School Year

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families, Staff, and Community,

Due to ongoing construction and renovation projects at Cedar Bluffs Public Schools, the start of the 2026-2027 school year will be delayed by one week. We recognize this change may affect family schedules and plans, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Although construction has continued to make good progress, it has become clear that several key areas of the building will not be ready for students by our originally scheduled start date. Rather than opening while significant work is still underway, we believe allowing an additional week will provide our teachers and staff the opportunity to safely prepare classrooms, organize instructional spaces, and ensure the best possible learning environment for our students.

We understand that many families plan well in advance for the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, construction timelines are influenced by factors outside of the district's control, and despite the tremendous efforts of everyone involved, additional time is needed to complete the work as safely and effectively as possible.

Please note the following:

· The first day of school will be delayed by one week to Wednesday, August 19. August 19 will still be a scheduled as an early out, as originally planned.

· Open House will now be a Registration Night held on Monday, August 17. Elementary families please enter through the Auxiliary gym and Middle/High School parents please come through the main senior high entrance.

· Fall athletic practices, competitions, and all school activities will continue as scheduled. Coaches and activity sponsors will communicate directly with athletes and participants regarding any specific information.

· Staff members should watch for communication from their building principals. While the student start date has changed, some professional development activities and staff workdays must remain on their originally scheduled dates due to outside presenters. Principals will provide building-specific schedules and expectations.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we complete these improvements to our facilities. While changing the school calendar is never an easy decision, we believe this adjustment is in the best interest of our students, staff, and families.

Thank you for your continued support of Cedar Bluffs Public Schools. We look forward to welcoming everyone back soon and beginning another outstanding school year in facilities that better serve our students for years to come.
