Covid 19 vaccine vaccine

Superintendent Weekly Press Release January 29, 2021

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

COVID RISK LEVEL: ORANGE

For the Week of February 1st, the COVID risk dial remains in Orange but falls from 3.14 to 2.71 on the COVID risk dial. Reflected shows each county falling also, from Dodge moving from 3.14 to 2.57, Saunders from 3.00 to 2.71 and Washington falls from 3.14 to 2.86.

The DHHS Vaccine Dashboard shows that as Tuesday January 26th, the State of Nebraska has vaccinated 2.3% of our 1.48 million Nebraskans. Likewise, the school has seen its first employees get the call to be vaccinated. While not all of our staff registered to be vaccinated, those that did were organized into priority lists. First to get the shot at Cedar Bluffs were those that are 65 years of age and older and those with underlying health conditions as outlined by the CDC. On Thursday, all but 4 of our high priority staff members received their first dose and we are hopeful that each week we can add staff until all of those who have registered are vaccinated. The vaccine was quick as our employees drove to the vaccination site, stayed in their vehicles, received their shots, were observed for 15 minutes and then returned to the work the same day. No staff member reported side effects.

Sanford Health and the CDC are encouraging all Americans to get the vaccine. To

this effort they have been using literature like this one to inform the public and

promote the idea that to get to herd immunity we should all consider the vaccine. In

my research I am seeing that at least 70% to 90% would need to be immune for us

to ease restrictions. I know the flu of 1918 lasted 2 years before they were able to

ease restrictions. I know that it feels like we have been dealing with this forever

however, we still haven’t reached the one year mark. It was March 17 of 2020 when

we closed our doors, trying to figure out how to move forward safely.

TOTAL POSITIVE: 33-Students, 47-Parent(s)/Family Members, 26-Staff

THIS WEEK POSITIVE: 6-Students, 2-Parent(s)/Family Members, 2-Staff CURRENT QUARANTINE: 14

For the week, we have had 2 staff members test positive, both will be back February 2nd. There were 2 parent/family members test positive that quarantined 3 students and 6 students from two families that all tested positive. There were also 8 students who received negative test results but who were symptomatic. While these students were out awaiting test results their siblings were also in quarantine, but all will return by Monday, so I have not included them in our quarantine numbers. And finally, we have 1 student still out awaiting results after having symptoms. Our current quarantine number include the 12 from this week and 2 from the previous week who won’t return until later in the week.
