Superintendent Press Release December 9, 2022

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

Well, the weather wrecked a little havoc on construction, and they were not able to get the foundation poured this past week. However, all the components for the steel building arrived. Some early estimates for the link have it around $174 per square foot. This is without any HVAC included as our current link only has wall heaters and no HVAC, we are trying to keep the price as low as we can. One of the biggest expenses to adding the link is moving or removing the canopy that covers the preschool playground. The canopy was purchased with a grant from the American Academy of Dermatology to prevent skin cancer in pediatric patients. It will be a shame that we will have to take it down but unfortunately it is directly in line with where the link will need to go. Also, once the link is constructed, we will lose our bus pass through lane. The plan is to continue to enter where we do now on Main Street, but instead of exiting on Elm Street we would pull through the parking lot south of the new cafeteria and back onto Main Street making a big loop as we drop kids off at the playground.

We have amazing auxiliary programs and events happening at Cedar Bluffs Public School. Always ways to volunteer from the PTO, Foundation Board, Youth Sports Coaching, Adult Activities, and the Booster Club there are so many ways to be involved with our school.

If you are not aware our Community Wellness Center is open to anyone that has students here, is an alumni or lives in our district and it’s only $40 for a family membership for the entire year. With that membership you get 24 hours a day/ 7days a week access to our state-of-the-art fitness facility. We have multiple treadmills, rowing machine, stationary bicycles, free weights, and lots more. The individual rate is $25 per year, and we have a Senior Citizen discount rate for $30 a year for the family and $15 for an individual. All proceeds go to our Foundation and those proceeds help support our kids through scholarships throughout the year.

Reminder we are winding up the Giving Tree, if you would like to donate, you can donate to the Foundation (even get a tax deduction) and help a family in need. If you would rather, come to the school and pick an ornament off the “giving tree”, shop for that item and return it to the school and we will get it to that child in need. All items are due December 16th. As we do each year, our FCS class will also be making meals for families of need over the Holiday break.

The PTO has an amazing event coming up on December 17, from 4-7pm at the auditorium called Spaghetti with Santa. $8 per person or $25 for a family to eat spaghetti and get your child’s picture with Santa. This event is paired with our Foundation Holiday Lighting Contest. Our Foundation is hosting Fun Pianos in January, so be on the lookout for that. As well our Adult Volleyball league starts January 8th and plays most Sundays through the spring. If you are interested, please email Jeff Beckman at jeff.beckman@cbwildcats.org. And finally look for information on the Poker Tournament to be hosted at Todd’s Tavern in February by the Foundation. Always fun!
